Entertainment Island is Oblivias current project, 2008–2010. During this three–year period Oblivia, through means of performance, film, photography and text, will divulge and scrutinize the manifold world of entertainment and popular culture. Entertainment Island is supported by: Entertainment Island 2. Performance (2009) is a hilarious performance on life style, news and soap operas, where local culture meets global. Premiered November 2009 at Kiasma, during the Baltic Circle Festival. Entertainment Island 3. Performance (2010) shows the dark side of popular culture through a look at private entertainment b a disturbing mix of perversions and cartoons. Premier November 18 at Kiasma Theatre during Baltic Circle.Entertainment Island 4. Film, Time Passes (2008) In a vast landscape two characters are digging holes in the ground. They argue about shovels and the structure of the holes. They take breaks and look out. The silent movie combines slapstick with long shots of stillness and composure. The premise addresses the subtleties of entertainment and entertaining. Entertainment Island 5. Photo exhibition lounge installation (2010) The photos are related to different photo genres. In the installation lounge stuff from the world of entertainment and popular culture will be present together with an adequate soundscape. opening 17.11 Kiasma. Entertainment Island seminar and event (2010) Entertainment Island, in its entirety, will be launched at Kiasma Theatre, Helsinki 2-2.12 2010. The event will include the trilogy, the exhibition an a two day seminar Performing Popular Culture - between art and enetratinment. International key note speakers look at issues concerning, art, culture and entertainment. A big Entertainment Island party will end the event. Entertainment Island workshop. Build your own entertainment island. We work on ideas about popular culture and entertainment and look at how they filter through in a process ranging from 2 hrs – 2 weeks. Entertainment Island on tour Entertainment Island in its entity will go on tour 2011. In collaboration with local venues Oblivia will show the performances and the short film, mount the exhibition, give workshops and initiate discussions on entertainment and popular culture.
